Three common production methods for seamless pipes
Oct 05, 2023
Nowadays, the construction industry is developing faster and faster, and more and more seamless pipes are needed, so how are light seamless pipes produced? Friends who don’t know, let’s read it together.
Three common production methods for seamless pipes
1. Hot-rolled seamless pipe
Hot-rolled seamless pipes are usually produced by automatic rolling mills. The solid tube blank checks and removes surface defects, cuts to the required length, grabs the center at the penetrating end face of the tube blank, then sends it to the furnace for heating, and drills holes on the piercing machine. While piercing, it continues to rotate and advance, and under the action of the rolling edge and the head, a cavity called capillary is gradually formed inside the blank. Sent to the automatic rolling mill to continue rolling. Finally, the wall thickness is equalized by the leveling machine, and the diameter is determined by the diameter machine to meet the specification requirements. It is a relatively advanced method to produce hot-rolled seamless pipes by using continuous rolling mills.

2. Cold rolling and cold drawing
In order to obtain seamless pipes of smaller size and better quality, cold rolling, cold drawing or a combination of both methods are used. Cold drawing is usually carried out on a two-high mill length, and the steel pipe is rolled on a round hole consisting of a variable cross-section round hole and a fixed conical head. Air conditioners are usually operated on single or double chains of 0.5~100T.
3. Extrusion method
The extrusion method puts the heated tube blank into a sealed extrusion cylinder, and the piercing rod moves together with the extrusion rod to make the extruded part protrude from the small die hole. This method can produce seamless tubes with small diameters, which are long steel products with hollow sections and no joints around them.
