How to improve the wear resistance of induction hardened chrome-plated rods

During the induction hardening process, strictly control parameters such as heating rate, quenching temperature, and cooling rate. Properly increasing the heating rate helps to refine the grains, thereby improving the hardness and toughness of the hardened layer. For example, for chrome-plated rods made of medium carbon steel, the quenching temperature is accurately controlled between 820-860°C, and a suitable cooling medium is used to ensure a sufficiently fast cooling rate, so that a martensitic structure with excellent hardness and wear resistance can be obtained.
According to the specific use requirements of induction hardened chrome-plated rods, the depth of the hardened layer is reasonably adjusted. Generally speaking, in application scenarios with greater friction and pressure, appropriately increasing the depth of the hardened layer can improve wear resistance. At the same time, ensure the uniformity of the hardened layer to avoid excessive local hardness differences. By optimizing the design of the induction coil and the frequency of induction heating, the hardened layer is evenly distributed on the surface of the induction hardened chrome-plated rod.
Improve the quality of the chrome plating layer: Choose a suitable chrome plating process, such as decorative chrome plating, hard chrome plating, etc. For improving wear resistance, hard chrome plating is a better choice. During the chrome plating process, the composition, temperature, current density and other parameters of the chrome plating solution are strictly controlled.
Increasing the thickness of the chrome plating layer of the induction hardened chrome-plated rod: Under the premise of not affecting other properties and dimensional accuracy of the induction hardened chrome-plated rod, appropriately increasing the thickness of the chrome plating layer of the induction hardened chrome-plated rod can effectively improve the wear resistance. However, it should be noted that too thick chrome plating layer of the induction hardened chrome-plated rod may increase the internal stress of the chrome plating layer, and it is easy to cause problems such as peeling and shedding. Generally, the thickness of the hard chrome plating layer can be controlled between 0.02-0.05mm to improve wear resistance.
Surface pretreatment and post-treatment. Before induction hardening and chrome plating, the induction hardened chrome-plated rod is subjected to fine surface pretreatment. Including degreasing, pickling, sandblasting and other steps to remove oil, scale and impurities on the surface, so that the surface roughness reaches a suitable range, providing a good surface foundation for subsequent hardening and chrome plating, which can enhance the bonding strength between the hardened layer and the chrome plating layer and the substrate, thereby improving wear resistance. Appropriate post-treatment after chrome plating, such as grinding and polishing, can further reduce the surface roughness of the induction hardened chrome-plated rod and improve the surface finish. The surface roughness of the chrome-plated rod after grinding can be reduced to Ra0.2 - 0.4μm, which reduces the friction coefficient between the induction hardened chrome-plated rod and other parts during operation, thereby improving wear resistance.
In the use of induction hardened chrome-plated rods, the use of appropriate lubrication methods and lubricants is the key to improving wear resistance.
Minimize impurities, dust and corrosive substances in the working environment of chrome-plated rods. If these factors cannot be avoided in the working environment, protective measures can be taken, such as installing sealing devices to prevent impurities from entering the friction area; for corrosive environments, anti-corrosion coatings can be used or the working environment can be dehumidified, neutralized, etc. to protect the hardened layer and chrome plating layer on the surface of the chrome-plated rod and improve wear resistance.
